Staff Sergeant Christiansen was a member of 282nd Aviation Company, 212nd Aviation Battalion, 16th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On February 6, 1969, he was the door gunner of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) on a re-supply mission in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. Bad weather caused the aircraft to return to the Vandergrift Landing Zone, but contact was lost. His remains were recovered on August 27, 1996 and identified on December 10, 2000. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
