Sergeant Collazo was a member of the Aero Rifle Platoon, Troop C, 3rd Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry Regiment, 12th Aviation Group. On March 17, 1968, he was serving as point man of a ground search mission 37 miles southwest of Saigon, South Vietnam. After destroying one bunker he moved to attack a second bunker and was hit by 50 calibre fire and killed. His remains were recovered on February 8, 1993 and identified on May 17, 1993. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
