Sergeant First Class Crews was the squad leader of the Mortar Section, 4th Platoon, Company L, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Officially listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near the Chosin Reservoir on December 12, 1950, it is believed he died in captivity on January 2, 1951 and was buried at Kanggye, North Korea. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
