Warrant Officer, Third Class Deitsch was a member of 243rd Assault Helicopter Company, 10th Combat Aviation Battalion. On October 20, 1968, he was the aircraft commander of a Boeing Chinook Cargo Handling Helicopter (CH-47A) on a re-supply mission from Dong Ba Thien to Ban Me Thuot, South Vietnam. Radio contact was lost when the aircraft reached the Ninh Hoa Valley. His remains were recovered on February 14, 1995 and identified on March 28, 2001. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
