Corporal Evans was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Evans was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 15, 1951 and was killed by a guard on March 31, 1951. CPL Evans' remains have been recovered and identified in 2016. Interment at a private cemetery in Mississippi. CPL Evans' name is permanently inscribed on the Korean War Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
