Private First Class Faust was a member of Battery B, 57th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. On December 6, 1950, as a member of "Task Force McLean", his unit was surrounded by overwhelming Chinese forces near Hagaru-ri, North Korea. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
