For his leadership and valor, Colonel Forney was awarded the Silver Star, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Ribbon, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes

USMA Class of 1929, Colonel Forney was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he commanded the 19th Engineer Combat Group. He was Killed in Action while attached to the IX Corps fighting along the Ch'ongchon River in northwest North Korea on November 29, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
