Corporal Gruber was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on August 9, 1950 and returned to duty on August 22, 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Unsan. North Korea near the Yalu River on November 2, 1950.
