Sergeant First Class Harris was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while defending Hill 355 near Chorwon, North Korea on November 23, 1951 by enemy artillery fire.
