Sergeant Jones was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by an enemy machine gun fire near Yong Pong-ni, South Korea on September 16, 1950 and returned to duty on September 27, 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Yong Dong-ni, North Korea on November 8, 1950.
