Private First Class Kirby was a member of Battery A, 82nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. On April 30, 1952, near Chunchon, South Korea, a grenade fell out of his pocket and exploded killing him.
