First Lieutenant Knuckey was a member of Troop A, 3rd Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry Regiment, 12th Aviation Group. On May 27, 1971, he was the pilot of a Bell Kiowa Observation Helicopter (OH-58A), conducting battle damage assessment in Kracheh Province, Cambodia. His aircraft was hit by ground fire exploded and crashed about 8 miles southeast of Snuol. His remains were recovered on February 26, 1993 and identified on August 2, 1993. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
