USMA Class of 1945, Captain McElroy was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Headquarters Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while directing the assault on enemy defending "Bloody Ridge" in North Korea on September 2, 1951.
