Chief Warrant Officer, Third Class Pierson was a member the Troop B, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On April 13, 1969, he was the co-pilot of a Bell Cobra Attack Helicopter (AH-1G) on a visual reconnaissance over South Vietnam. As the aircraft made a gun run on a target, it burst into flames and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
