Corporal Romo was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Corporal Romo was a 57mm recoilless rifleman with the 4th Platoon, Company L, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. On December 1, 1950, his unit was overrun near Hudong-ni, North Korea. He was last seen on December 1, 1950 and was listed as Missing in Action on December 12, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. CPL Romo's remains were recovered 2004 and identified in 2013; he is interred at Riverside National Cemetery H
