Corporal Rose was a Light Weapons Infantryman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On August 30, 1950, near Chungan-ni, South Korea, he rose from his position to draw enemy fire, so that his comrades could deliver counterfire. On September 11, 1950, he was a member of a patrol entering a village near ridge line Sibi-Dang-San that became pinned down by enemy fire. He saw an enemy machine gun position and attacked it alone and was killed.
