CPL Smith was initially listed as missing in action. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial. CPL Smith's remains were recovered, identified in 1959 and interred at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial.
