For his leadership and valor, Master Sergeant Stein was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Master Sergeant Stein was a member of the 57th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea on December 2, 1950 and was killed by a guard on December 4, 1950. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. MSGT Stein's remains have been recovered and identified.
