Brigadier General Tyler was a veteran of World War II. During the Korean War he was a pilot of a F-94 Starfire jet fighter serving as advisor to the Japanese Air Defense Force. On May 28, 1952, his aircraft crashed as he was taking off from an airfield on Honshu, Japan.
