Notes

Major Vails was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 25, 1950 and died of those wounds on December 10, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
