Lieutenant Wright was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 653, aboard carrier USS VALLEY FORGE (CV-45). On March 11, 1952, while flying an inland reconnaissance route east of Pungsan, Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire. He tried to eject but his parachute failed to open fully. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
