For his leadership and valor, Corporal Yates was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Yates was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 10, 1950 and returned to duty on October 31, 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on June 25, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
