Lt. Gen. Robert L. Ord, USA (Ret) served 34 years in the Army in Infantry command and staff assignments, culminating as commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific. He served in Vietnam as a 25th Infantry Division rifle company commander and as senior advisor to the Vietnamese Ranger Command; at Ft. Ord as 7th Infantry Division G-3, chief of staff, and 9th Infantry Regiment commander; and, as a general officer, as chief of staff, Combined Field Army in Korea and as 7th Infantry Division assistant division commander (Maneuver) for the 1989 invasion of Panama. He served in the Pentagon and the Army’s Personnel Command, which he commanded during Desert Storm; he commanded the 25th Infantry Division and U.S. Army Hawaii, followed by U.S. Army forces in the Pacific, excluding Korea. After retiring from the Army in 1996, he was a distinguished senior fellow of the Center for Civil Military Relations at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS); senior consultant at Cubic Applications; consultant with Development Alternatives; and president of Sovereign Consultants International. In 2002, he was named Dean of the School of International Graduate Studies at NPS, a position held until 2008. He served simultaneously as founding director of the Global Center for Security Cooperation, a Department of Defense organization at NPS, and directed GCSC until retiring from federal service in 2009. Ord is a native of New Jersey and resides in Carmel, California with his family. He graduated from West Point with a B.S. degree and has a M.S. in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. He is a graduate of the Army War College and completed senior executive courses at Harvard and Penn State. He wears the Ranger tab, Parachutist Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge. His military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legions of Merit, Bronze Star and Air Medals for Valor.
